The second event of Rally Hebrides was held on Saturday 22 August 2009. The stage rally consisted of a Ceremonial Town Centre Start, followed by two special stages over farmland on the edge of Stornoway. The drivers tackled a further two special stages through the stunning grounds of Lewis Castle.
The action concluded with a ‘tarmac super-special’ around the circuit at Lewis Karting Circuit. Twenty of the best rally cars in the UK made the trip to Stornoway to help raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. The level of the drivers’ commitment was demonstrated by the fact that they paid their own way in terms of ferry fares, accommodation, car costs etc. Adam Marsden travelled north from Somerset to the Isle of Lewis covering around 1500 miles for the round trip to compete in the rally.
Calum Macleod who lives on the Island was Adam’s co driver. A wide range of vehicles took part in the event, ranging from the mighty Group B Audi Quattro and an ex Colin McRae Mk2 Escort to the outrageous MG Metro 6R4 and the Subaru Impreza of 2008 Scottish Rally Champion, Jimmy Girvan.
