Audi return to the World Rally Championship following the ban of Group B cars. Hannu Mikkola wins the testing Safari Rally in Kenya with an Audi 200 Quattro saloon, followed by Walter Rohrl in 2nd, also in an Audi 200 Quattro Saloon. Audi enters the North Americas Trans Am Championship with the 200 Quattro. Hurley Haywood, Hans Joachim Stuck and Walter Rohrl collect 8 wins and the Manufacturers title for Ingolstatd.
