The first World Championship event in 1981 that the Quattro entered was the Monte Carlo Rally, in which Hannu Mikkola unfortunately did not complete due to an accident, however set many of the fastest times on the stages. Hannu Mikkola wins the car its first World Rally Championship in Sweden, as well as the RAC Rally in Great Britain.
